Free Meds Program / Pharmacy
Programs
Free medications are sometimes available from the pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Prescription medications are available to patients who do not have the
means to pay for them and meet eligibility criteria for these services.
Here's how it usually works.
-
Ask your doctors office to call the number listed for the
manufacturer of the meds you need. You can print this page to take with
you.
-
The company may then require your doctor to send in, on office
stationery, a statement from the doctor stating that you need the medicine,
have no insurance or other means to pay for the meds, and also include
a prescription for the meds.
-
If approved, the company should send the doctors office a
supply of the meds for you. You can pick the meds up from the doctors office.
This process can take a few months to get the medications started, but
well worth the wait to get them supplied free.
-
According to one person at a drug manufacturing company,
you may have your prescription refilled for as long as need be. I don't
know if this is the policy for all the manufacturers in the program, or
only the policy of the one contacted.
-
To have the prescription refilled, you must again have your
doctor contact the manufacturer, and go thru the procedure once more.
Each company may have a little different procedure.
Here is an address to write to for a booklet with
the same information listed, with a little more detail. This booklet is
an excellent resource reference for support groups.
