United States. AAPC was founded in 1963 as an organization which certifies
Pastoral Counselors, accredits pastoral counseling centers, and approves
training programs. It is non-sectarian and respects the spiritual commitments
and religion traditions of those who seek assistance without imposing
counselor beliefs onto the client

In 1976, Campus Crusade began Family Ministry to provide pre-marriage seminars
for its staff members. Following our success in meeting the needs of pre-married,
married staff couples began asking for encouragement through marriage seminars.
Community leaders and pastors soon found out about the seminars and said
they were exactly what couples needed -- the blueprints on how to build
strong homes. Family Ministry, now called Family Life, opened the Family Life
Marriage Conference to the public in 1978. At the heart of Family Life is

Focus on the Family
began in 1977 in response to Dr. James Dobson's increasing concern for
the American family. With a Ph.D. in child development from the University
of Southern California, Dr. Dobson had served 14 years as associate clinical
professor of pediatrics at the USC School of Medicine and a concurrent
17 years on the attending staff of Los Angeles Children's Hospital in the
divisions of Child Development and Medical Genetics. What he saw during
those years included massive internal and external pressures on American
households, causing unprecedented disintegration.
