Complexities
in treatment of Bipolar Disorder lithium was demonstrated
as the first effective treatment for bipolar disorder, initially in treating
acute mania, and later in preventing both manic and depressive episodes.
Looking back at the early papers and books about lithium written no more
than twenty to thirty years ago one might imagine that daily doses of lithium
would virtually eradicate the symptoms of bipolar disorder with no more
than minor, generally tolerable side effects, and that little else was
needed for the vast majority of bipolar patients.

to help you recognize the signs of bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is
a complicated illness and no single questionnaire or test can be used to
accurately diagnose this illness. Accurate diagnosis is obtained only through
a thorough evaluation with a physician. This questionnaire is a good first
step in discovering if you might have this illness but it is not meant
to take the place of an evaluation by a physician or a mental health professional.

means the people and things around you and everything that happens to you).

if the stressors in our environment exceed our level of vulnerability.
Our level of vulnerability is caused by our inherited chemical makeup.
