Girls and Boys Town for Central Florida Girls and Boys Town of Central Florida is the second oldest and second largest site outside of National Headquarters in Boys Town, Neb. Since opening in 1986, the Central Florida site has directly helped more than 12,000 children. In 2001, Girls and Boys Town of Central Florida provided help, healing and hope to 1,020 children and 220 families primarily through Residential Services, Short-Term Residential Services, and Children and Families in Need of Services. Another 14,611 children and families in the state of Florida were indirectly assisted through Common Sense Parenting® and Project Safe Place, the Girls and Boys Town National Hotline, and through outreach & professional training programs.

Kimberly Home Crisis Pregnancy Center Kimberly Home is a non-profit, non denominational pregnancy care center which provides counseling, referrals, & assistance with material items to women experiencing distressed, unplanned or otherwise troubling pregnancies. The facility opened on March 14, 1983 and during the first year helped 215 women. Over the past 18 years that number has increased to over 2500 per year. Supported by the University of South Florida and Florida Department of Education. The project's mission is to provide consultation, coaching, program development, referrals, and support to school districts in dealing with challenging student behavior. USF Professor Dr. Robert Friedman Addresses President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health On April 29, 2002, President Bush followed through with his pledge to support the 54 million Americans with mental and physical disabilities, establishing the President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health. With a goal of advising the President on the United States mental health service delivery system, the Commission will meet monthly to provide recommendations and improvements that will enable adults with serious mental illnesses and children with serious emotional disturbances to live, work, learn, and participate fully in their communities.

Developing Legally Correct & Educationally Appropriate IEPsThe Individualized Education Program (IEP) has been the cornerstone of special education since the Education for All Handicapped Children Act became law in 1975. We begin this article by examining the relationship between the IEP and a free, appropriate public education. Then we discuss the IEP process and highlight the procedural changes and new requirements mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendments of 1997. Next, we present information from a number of due process hearings and cases that have involved IEPs to illustrate mistakes school districts often make that can result in rulings against a district, Finally, we provide guidelines to assist schools with developing legally correct and educationally appropriate IEPs.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a national law that protects qualified individuals from discrimination based on their disability. The nondiscrimination requirements of the law apply to employers and organizations that receive financial assistance from any Federal department or agency, including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). These organizations and employers include many hospitals, nursing homes, mental health centers and human service programs.
Tampabay Academy Tampa Bay Academy is a residential and day treatment facility for children who have severe psychiatric or behavioral problems. We also accept deaf students who fall into the above categories. All of our students have been placed at TBA due to their inability to function effectively in the community or less restrictive settings. The Charter School of Tampa Bay Academy was created to act as an adjunct to that service. Our goal is to provide an educational environment which will facilitate returning students to a level of functioning that will optimize their ability to return to a more mainstreamed setting upon discharge
